Diana, Thanks for the question. There's a couple of things that I'll say. 1. The intention of the prayer is oriented towards people, especially situations in which Scripture is twisted to become a weapon to win an argument. That's using Scripture for one's own purposes, not what it is intended for - which is to listen to it and see how we need to be realigned to what God is up to. Scripture should point us to God and God's ways. 2. Sure Scripture can be used to defeat Satan, but I don't recall Jesus telling us to go and fight with Satan though as if we have the ability or stamina to fight. Paul says to put on the full armor of God, but that is a defensive measure. I don't see Luke 4:1-13 as a debate. This was Satan manipulating Scripture for his own advantage and agenda. He had no intention of taking what Jesus was saying and considering it as legit. A debate requires two equals with equal respect for one another. If all we are doing is debating in order to win, then are we focusing on the right thing? We could win a debate and lose a relationship. When I think about following Jesus, it's less about making sure I have the right arguments, and that I can convince others that I'm right, and more about living the faith, which is about seeing the image of God in others, welcoming the outcast, feeding the hungry, being in right relationship, etc.
