First, we all have control issues. It's really a matter of what we are trying to control. When I read the account of the Fall in Genesis 3, I hear the serpent tempting Eve with the idea that she can be like God - which, for humans often means being in control and knowing. Humanity has a long history of giving into this temptation.

Second, maybe it's a matter of what direction the control is being directed. I think there is a significant difference between imposing on someone else one's standards versus someone dealing with their own lives and the complexities that exist in it.

Do you know any transgendered people? Have you had a conversation with someone who is transgendered - not to convince them that they are wrong, but rather just to listen and learn? It's an eye opening experience. And in many ways, we discover the beauty of God's creation and image in humanity.

In the creation story, God creates night and day. And yet, what is dusk? It's a real thing. Is it night? Is it day? Is it a bit of both? Is it neither? When exactly does day turn to night? At what moment is there a hard line of separation? Yet, this is a part of God's creation. And it's unclear. And it's complex. And we let it be. That's really all transgendered people are looking for - to be left alone as opposed to be imposed upon.
