Great article. I found a similar situation and attitude when I lived in Finland. There is a sense of the importance of the wellbeing of all in Finland and that taxes go to pay for services and those services work well. It's about participating in something larger than only what "I" want. Here in the US we have gone into hyper individualism which is wrecking so much. And you hit the main point of it all - trust. Without trust, there is nothing else.
