I hate the Culture Wars

I hate the Culture Wars. Like all wars, they are destructive, rely on scapegoats, are most interested in winning at all costs, and invested in creating enemies, hatred, and fear of the other.

And like all wars, no one actually wins. There is just a trail of destruction, brokenness, and a whole bunch of people who pay the consequences of the war they didn’t have a desire to fight in, while those who sat in comfort launched the war and are free of the consequences.

I hate culture wars because we’re so invested in winning against our enemies. Winning at all costs becomes most valued. I’m not sure how that is Christlike at all.

Healthy societies work to improve the lives of their citizens, allow for healthy dialogue and finding ways to work through conflict in order to create thriving communities because there is something at their foundation that seeks to unify people and recognize that we need each other to survive. As far as a I can see, as a nation, we aren’t interested in that at all. We’re just interested in winning, defeating our enemies (regardless of whether they are foreign or domestic).

While it appears that we’re going to end Roe v. Wade in this nation, are we going to do anything that will actually assist pregnant women, or women who have given birth, women who are alone in raising a child, women who are trapped in domestic violence relationships, women who have been raped, women who are trapped in poverty, and so many others who feel completely lost? What about the children? Are we…
