I have been pondering so much lately. Especially when I'm confronted by "Christians" who express their displeasure when I proclaim in worship that racism, white supremacy, and Christian Nationalism as sins to be ended. And we pray for an end to gun violence in worship. Who knew that these could be partisan issues, rather than just about human decency and human rights and imago dei.

I was reminded by my spiritual director that people have been hearing the Gospel through the lens of these things for decades. The church has created its own problem with this. No wonder it is in decline. And that's not a bad thing either. It needs to be purged to these evil beliefs. It needs to be purged of Christendom thinking. It needs to be purged of empire theology. And until that happens the church won't be healthy and being what it is supposed to be.

In the mean time, I'll keep proclaiming what needs to be said. Even if there's no job for me, I'll keep proclaiming them because they need to be said and Christians need to decide if they are going to actually follow Jesus, or some fraud that goes around claiming to be Jesus.
