I have found that how Christians see the Bible says a lot about how they see the character of God. If the Bible is an answer book, then what is most important is correct belief. If it's a story, then relationship matters most - being in right relationship with God, with others, and with the rest of creation. There are many problems with the idea of the Bible being an answer book. First among them is what is the purpose of faith if we have all the answers? Faith has to do with believing while doubting. If we have the answers, then we don't need faith, do we?

Thank you for writing this article. I hope many people read it. I also recommend "The Lost Art of Scripture" by Karen Armstrong. I think you would enjoy it. You can read my reflection on it from this link to know a bit more about it - https://medium.com/@pastormatthewbest/book-review-the-lost-art-of-scripture-by-karen-armstrong-2c82ef67be63
