I highly recommend the book "The Evangelicals" by Frances Fitzgerald. It was published in 2017. It's a long book, but worth every page. It traces the history of Evangelicalism from the very start - going back to the Puritans. Edwards is certainly a part of this founding in America, but there are also other culprits that it is important for others to know about.
