I lived out of the country for a year and when I came back, I didn't feel like I fit anymore. And that was 7 years ago. I still don't. Someone said that when you move away, you enter a different culture. And then when you return, you aren't the same - you've developed a third culture. And it's a lonely culture because the third culture only makes sense to you. The other culture no longer makes sense. That is certainly true from my experience.
