Prayer for December 29, 2021: Please pray with me. God of the misfits, the rabble rousers, those who won’t play the rules in order to maintain an unjust order, give us courage. We have many great examples of “troublesome” people who refused to be silent or be quiet. Thank you for examples like Desmond Tutu who spoke truth, who called evil what it was, and who worked for a more just world. But Desmond Tutu was not alone. Being your follower means speaking up when silence is much easier. It means not being quiet when a voice is needed. It means looking at evil and calling it what it is. There is a cost for such things. But anything worthwhile comes with a cost. You know this so very well Lord. It has been said that the more invested we are in your ways the more our hearts will break. They will break because we will see the brokenness of the world around us. We will see people who work tirelessly to maintain these broken systems. We’ll see so much. Yet, you walk with us in this brokenness because we can not handle the burden on our own. It is too heavy. Use us Lord. Use us by giving us what we need to live into your way. Use us to invite others into your way. Let us be tools of grace — because the world needs it so very desperately. Amen.

Call to Action: What is God calling on you to speak up about? What is God calling you to do? Pledge to yourself and to God today that you will not be silent in the face of injustice.
