Prayer for January 6, 2022: Please pray with me. God of history, today is a day full of history. A day of declaration. A day full of remorse and anger too. A day the is the personification of our division as a nation. We don’t know what to think. We have a range of emotions on this day. We don’t know what to do with them. We can imagine that Mary and Joseph were full of emotions at the first Epiphany when the travelers from afar came offering them gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. We can only imagine that Joseph and Mary were full of emotions soon after that first Epiphany when they ran for their lives away from a violent tyrant who planned destruction for this family. You are a God of history and we don’t know what to do on such a day. Here we are Lord. Use us. Amen.

Call to Action: Think of a person you don’t like — that you might even hate. Struggle with seeing the image of God in them. Voice it out loud to yourself where the image of God is in them.
