Prayer for November 2, 2021
Prayer for November 2, 2021: Please pray with me. God who leads, today we lift up all who are running for elected office. These are people who are willing to put their reputations on the line in order to serve. Not all of them will do a good job. Some are doing it for selfish reasons. But that isn’t new. Many, though, are serving in office for the right reasons. They want to do what they can to make their communities and states a better place. We pray for the voters — that the bondage of cynicism may not have a hold on them. We pray that voters look at candidates for who they are — not saviors, but people. Let the voters see candidates as nothing different than themselves. We pray for the winners — that they make take office in humility knowing that they have been given a great responsibility in service. We pray for those who do not win — that a loss does not crush them, but they can use their enthusiasm to serve in other ways that help their communities. And we pray that the idol of partisanship may die off and that our focus might be on citizenship and community instead. Amen.
Call to action: If you go to the polls to vote today, thank the people who work the polls — the judge of elections and staff. Thank the people handing out campaign materials for their dedication and assistance for candidates running for office. Thank the candidates for their willingness to serve if elected. Even those that you aren’t voting for and those that you disagree with. We can disagree without being disagreeable. You never know when you’ll need those same people to hear you out.
