Prayer for November 5, 2019

Prayer for November 5: Please pray with me. God who liberates, set us free from the empires of our world. Empires show up in many different forms — not just nations and militaries. Empires conquer, exploit, oppress, kill, and destroy. How many people have suffered at the hands of empires in our world, in our nation, our communities, our churches, and our lives? Too many. You are a God who judges empires for what they are — idols and false gods. Liberate us from the empires that seek to enslave, exploit, and oppress. Set us free from the desire to support empires with their false promises of peace, prosperity, and salvation. Empires can’t save us. Empires don’t know what true peace is. Empires aren’t interested in ensuring that people thrive. Empires care about one thing — accumulating power. Set us free from the empires of the world. Amen.
