Prayer for October 18, 2021: Please pray with me. God who builds up people and tears down injustice, shape us to follow in your footsteps. It’s so easy to fall into the pit of complaining. But it leads no where. It turns us inward on our selves. Complaining by itself without action builds up no one. It rejects the responsibility of living into our faith. Faith isn’t a passive thing in which we think we are right, demand that others change to match up with our version of truth, and expect that others will do what we want them to do. Faith is active. Faith is designed to create. Faith is creative. Faith is imaginative. Faith edifies. Faith acts. It builds up people, churches, communities and more. Faith is life giving and orients those possessed by it towards doing what leads to thriving life. Infect us with this kind of faith Lord — Faith that leaves complaining in the grave so that new life can be resurrected and turned into action that builds up people. Amen.

Call to Action: Name one thing you complain about. What can you do in a productive manner to build up the people and organizations related to that complaint? What can you do? Name a person you complain about. What can you do to build that person up? Have a problem with your church, a politician, a policy, an organization, a business, etc? What can you do that would build up your church, community, etc? Just one thing that moves you from complainer to doer. Now go and do it. Build people up. It’s how faith lives in us. It’s how Christ is present to others through us.
