Prayer for September 3, 2021: Please pray with me. God who sets us free, we need you. There are so many that are held in bondage to abuse. There are many who think that abuse is normal. There are so many who feel trapped. Free them all. End abusive systems in our relationships, in our families, in our churches, in our communities, in our neighborhoods, in our nation, in our businesses, in our jobs, in our entertainment, in our economic systems, and more. Set us free. Abuse is a form of violence. It is opposed to the way of peace and Shalom. It is controlling. It is antithetical to who you are and what you are about. Your Good News is a message and a transformation from abuse to health. Replace abusive systems with healthy ones. For all our sakes. Amen.

Call to Action: what abusive system(s) are you caught in? You may not even recognize the abuse. Abusive systems tell us lies — they paint pictures that are false. They tell us that our worth is not inherent in who we are, but comes from them and what they value. They tell us that control over people is normal and expected. They tell us to do what they say and ignore what they do. They tell us that only certain people can have a say. They tell us that groups of people have less value. They are violent and exploitive. They take and demand more, while offering little in return. They threaten people who try to escape their grasp and control. What abusive systems are you caught in? It’s time to reject these systems and be free of them. Pray that God give you the wisdom of what to do next.
