Thanks for writing this. As a Lutheran, I go back to Luther who talked about the idea that we are both sinner and saint. Yeah, it's unpleasant to think about the sinner side, but it's there. All we have to do is look at our history, and our current state of affairs - and I'm not talking about outside the church in the culture. I'm talking about inside the church. Ask any pastor how much abuse they come across inside their own churches. Yet, there is this tendancy to try to cover it up, rather than deal with it. Because humans are drawn to immediate avoidance of pain. And dealing with abuse is painful. Although long term, it's far more painful to ignore it and pretend it isn't there.
