That may be true. And in our current state of politics, which is ill, what he is doing is not uncommon. That's not an excuse for it of course.
I argue that the country has an abundance of poverty in a variety of ways. Poverty isn't just economic for individuals. The Senator's actions are an example of political poverty. In poverty, the only time that exists is the present. There is no consideration for the future and no look at the past to learn from it. The Senator's actions are only about a short term gain right now. It is poverty thinking. No worries though, by next week we'll be onto some other political poverty action or statement, with most people having forgotten this one or maybe even several will have passed in that time. And things like this are what keep us in political poverty. And like all poverty - it's not isolated to just one form. It is connected to so many other forms of poverty.
