Very interesting read. Thanks for writing this. I would add that the symbolic meaning of flood to the mix. Water in the ancient world represented chaos. And so regardless of whether there was an actual flood or not, there has always been chaos creeping in on "civilization" however it is defined. And that chaos is usually pretty destructive.
