You make a good point Leslie. Maybe I should have been more specific. I wasn’t attempting to argue that we shouldn’t engage at all.

I think part of where this post came from was seeing all these political feeds on facebook from people who are not open to hearing alternative ideas and I know it, because I know them.

Your point about engaging with people who are open to actual debate and consideration of other ideas is right on point. I have engaged with people who I felt were open to discussion. For me, I take a shot at engagement of opposing ideas when there are questions in someone’s post — not leading questions, but legitimate questions.
